»Do It Yourself: African Music Festivals«

Elena Schulz-Görner, Olajumoke Adeyanju, Pamela Owusu-Brenyah & Wale Davies

Pamela Owusu-Brenyah last held an event with her community platform AFRO x POP as part of Pop-Kultur lokal. Now the music advisor, festival organiser and DJ is hosting a talk. She’ll address the DIY principle behind festivals such as One Africa Music Fest, Afrochella, Afro Nation and the Gidi Culture Festival, as major international festivals have largely ignored emerging African music. Owusu-Brenyah welcomes the senior booking manager of Streetlife International, Elena Schulz-Görner; DJ, journalist and founder of the Berlin »Poetry Meets« series Olajumoke Adeyanju; and Wale Davies of Nigerian rap duo Show Dem Camp, who have been hosting the Palmwine Music Festival since 2017. Together, they will discuss topics such as spreading and recognising African musical culture, perception and awareness of Afro-pop as well as pride and solidarity within the community.
