Canada
A virus is spreading worldwide. And what is the world doing? Coming closer together. Just not physically, but rather in the digital sphere. From the very beginning, an uncompromising internationality has been one of Pop-Kultur’s core values, and in 2020, this will be more apparent than ever. This year, we are pleased to be able to strengthen our cooperation with Canada.
After all, our partnership has been around for a long time in an unofficial way. Musicians from Canada have been shaping Berlin’s scene for quite some time now, leaving their mark on the city’s overall subculture as well. From King Khan – who’s involved in Pop-Kultur this year – to pianist Chilly Gonzales to Peaches and Miss Natasha Enquist, who performed at a previous edition of the festival: they’ve all properly represented the many facets of Canadian pop music here on the other side of the planet.
This year, we welcome three Canadian acts whose musical and artistic approaches could not be more different. Cartel Madras use thunderous trap beats as the basis for their unique rap design and King Khan presents a multimedia spectacle with his Commissioned Work »Rat-Tribution Now.« And Jessy Lanza? The songwriter plays us her favourite chord sequences. An artistic range as wide and diverse as the North American country itself.
The Canadian contributions as part of the festival Pop-Kultur 2020 are funded by FACTOR Canada and the Government of Canada.
This project is part of the culture program related to Canada’s Guest of Honour presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020/2021 and is supported by FACTOR Canada and the Government of Canada.
